Introduction
AnthuriumOriginally from South America. The gender name Anthurium is derived from the Greek words ‘Anthos’, meaning ‘flowering’, and ‘Oura’, meaning ‘tail’. Why the name Anthurium, or flowering tail, is appropriate for the way this plant flowers needs no further explanation.
The diversity in varieties has been greatly increased in recent years through breeding and selection. The Anthurium assortment consists of both pot and cut flower breeds. Anthura currently has more than 100 commercial varieties, all protected by breeding property rights or patents.
Due to its long tenability, Anthurium is an excellent export product. More than 80% of the total Anthurium production in the Netherlands is exported, mainly to European destinations.
The most ideal growing conditions for Anthurium are characterised by subtropical conditions. They require a minimum temperature of 15°C and a maximum temperature of 35°C. Click here for a more elaborate description of the growth process.
Phalaenopsis
Phalaenopsis is a group name for about 60 types of orchids. The gender name Phalaenopsis means ‘like a (night) butterfly’ and is derived from the Greek word ‘Phalaina’ (night butterfly) and ‘opsis’ (like). It originates from South East Asia. Most types are epiphytes, plants that grow on other plants, trees, stones, etc., without extracting food from them.
Anthura breeds Phalaenopsis epiphytes, and its varieties are available in the form of meristems for both pot and cut flower cultures. The advantage of meristems is the ability to pass on the genes of a selected breed, therefore ensuring high quality. The immense popularity of Phalaenopsis at home and abroad proves that this product is a thing of beauty. The elegance of the flowers attracts people; it is a special product that is bred with passion. In addition to pot culture plants, Anthura also sells special breeds for cut flower culture.
Phalaenopsis is a tropical plant. Temperatures below 15°C and above 34°C must be avoided. For the best growth results an average temperature of 26 to 27°C is required during the seedbed phase, and after the transplant phase this should be 19-21°C. Click here for a more elaborate description of the growth process.
Bromelia
In foreign countries Anthura also supplies Bromelia young plants of the company Corn Bak B.V. from Assendelft.
Bromeliads are just like Anthurium and Phalaenopsis tropical plants. The plants are originally from Central Africa and South America. A bromelia can grow on both trees (epiphyte) as on the ground. For the assortment of Corn.Bak B.V. please click here.
